A Legacy Woven with the Kuma River: Where Japanese Tradition Meets Contemporary Design
In 1941, our founder, Harukichi Arimura, captivated by the scenic beauty of the Kuma River, established a small hot spring inn named Ayusato Ryokan.
Over time, Ayunosato has evolved to meet the needs of each era, while honoring its rich history. Today, it stands as a chic and stylish haven of Japanese modernity, boasting 74 rooms and a wealth of facilities dedicated to providing exceptional hospitality.
What remains unchanged since our founding is the breathtaking scenery borrowed from our surroundings that unfolds from our ryokan.
In spring, fresh greenery emerges; in summer, ayu (sweetfish) leap in the clear streams.
Autumn paints the valley in vibrant hues of crimson and gold, while winter brings ethereal morning mists and blankets of snow.
From within our walls, you can witness the majestic and ever-changing beauty of Hitoyoshi's natural wonders.

This prestigious designation, similar to that of Cognac and Bordeaux wine, is a testament to the exceptional quality of the local rice and water used in its production, elevating Kuma Shochu to a world-class spirit.
The 27 distilleries located in the Kuma Valley each produce several distinct brands of shochu, for a total of over 200 labels in total. Kuma Shochu is characterized by its mellow aroma and rich, full-bodied flavor and covers a diverse range of tastes.
