At our inn's front entrance, you'll find a foot bath fed by the free-flowing waters of our hot spring. Unlike a full-body bath, which can sometimes be taxing on the body, a foot bath is gentler and allows you to soak for longer periods. Warming your feet improves circulation throughout the body and is said to be effective in alleviating chills, insomnia, low blood pressure, and colds. It may also help relieve stiffness, fatigue, lethargy, swelling, and numbness caused by the cold. This is a popular spot for our international guests.

Ayunosato Spring:
Drinkable Onsen Water

Hours:
Available to use freely at anytime
Hot Spring Type:
Sodium Chloride and Bicarbonate Spring (Hypotonic, Mildly Alkaline, High-Temperature Spring)

Hitoyoshi has a long and rich history of hot spring bathing, dating back to 1492, when the feudal lord Sagara Tametsugu, ruler of Higo Province (present-day Kumamoto Prefecture), was recorded as enjoying these healing waters. This tradition has continued for over 500 years.

After 70 years of drawing from our original hot spring source, we recently re-excavated it to ensure the continued purity and abundance of our hot spring water. All the baths in our inn are supplied by this hot spring, the Ayunosato Spring.

At Ayunosato, we are proud to offer the unique experience of drinking our hot spring water, a practice known as "insen"—a testament to the exceptional quality of our spring.

While the effects may vary depending on the water's properties, drinking hot spring water is said to be beneficial for chronic constipation, obesity, chronic digestive diseases, and diabetes.

In gratitude for the flourishing of our ryokan and the blessings the Ayunosato Spring has brought, we have enshrined the guardian deities of hot springs, Onamuchi and Sukunahikona, near it.

Please note that hot spring water is available for drinking only at the designated location next to the front entrance on the 1st floor. Please refrain from drinking hot spring water from the communal baths or any other areas.
